What do I do when the computer gives the error message "fatal error reading text files"?

This error can be caused by too little DOS memory (minimum required is 580k) or by bad *.HOF and *.TOF files. *.TOF and *.HOF files are Temporary Operating Files and can be deleted without damage to the system. These files are generated each time a scan is run. If the program does not delete them after its use, they can cause problems. To delete the *.HOF and *.TOF files please do the following:

From the DTX main menu press F10 to exit to DOS
The computer should show C:\DTX

Now type the following:
DEL *.HOF
press ENTER

Then type:
DEL *.TOF
and press ENTER

Now type DTX
and press ENTER

To check the memory you can type at the C: prompt the following and make sure you have enough memory to run the program:

C:\mem (You should have at least 580k of memory available).

This should clear everything out of the temporary files and let the system operate normally.

If this did not solve your problem, please contact your distributor or
Osteometer Technical Support.

The lines in yellow might be different in your setup and that is OK.

Lines 7-9 might be different due there monitor and keyboard setups. This is OK. Lines 9 and 10 will automatically start the DTX-200 DexaCare® program when the computer is started.

The Config.sys:

This file can be edited by typing at the c: prompt the following:

C:\ edit config.sys

The file should read as follows:
1. DEVICE=C:\DOS\SETVER.EXE
2. DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS
3. DOS=HIGH
4. COUNTRY=045,,C:\DOS\COUNTRY.SYS
5. DEVICE=C:\DOS\DISPLAY.SYS CON=(EGA,,1)
6. FILES=30

The yellow lines do not affect the performance of the software. They have to do with the country and monitor setups.
